Just come back from a meeting in Woods Hole, Mass, USA, near Martha's Vineyard and Cape Cod.

I was surprised how much colour was still on the trees - the locals said that the autumn had been very delayed this year due to prolongued unseasonable warmth.

That was the impression I'd formed by looking at the daily temperatures
for the big cities as given in my newspaper. (Incidentally the last week
or so seems to have been exceptionally cold in Anchorage, Alaska,
especially for so early in the winter season. Presumably because of its
maritime location, it rarely gets severely cold there.)
