[WR] Romsey - torrential rain and small hail
Near day darkness occurred at 1200Z heralding the
onset of intense rain accompanied by a barrage of clear hailstones of 3 to 4mm in diameter clattering against the windows. The hail element persisted for exactly 9 minutes. The SSE wind produced gusts to 36kt in the heavy pptn, veering westerly and dropping dramatically to just 5kt. All is quiet after that noisy spell when the visibility plummeted to 1000 metres. 16.5mm of rain has fallen in the space of 3 and a half hours between 0900Z and 1230Z, with over 7mm dropping in the final half hour of that period. The temperature has taken a modest 1 degree drop whilst the pressure continues to fall, if more slowly. Currently (1240Z), the rain is falling at moderate intensity.
