Blizzards in England? Good agreement in ensembles. I'm wondering if I have planted out my greenhouse tomatoes too early :-) Probably a lot of cold rain and wind low down, but above 200 metres??? If only it was January! Will -- " Some sects believe that the world was created 5000 years ago. Another sect believes that it was created in 1910 " http://www.lyneside.demon.co.uk/Hayt...antage_Pro.htm Will Hand (Haytor, Devon, 1017 feet asl) --------------------------------------------- Snowy in Shropshire this morning. 2-3 cm full cover at 0500z, but rapidly melting now with only a few patches left in the shade. It would've been my latest "snow lying" day, had it hung around. Plenty left on the high ground above 250 metres. -- Freddie Pontesbury Shropshire 102m AMSL http://www.hosiene.co.uk/weather/ http://twitter.com/PontesburyWx for hourly reports ----Android NewsGroup Reader---- http://usenet.sinaapp.com/ |

Mean max. was +22.9C 4.3 degrees above normal. What a month. August was cooler at +20.3C but still above normal. That was a most memorable July! My maximum on the 18th was 28.8C with the hottest day being 30.5C on the 13th. The mean maximum for whole month was 24.9C. August's mean maximum was 22.7C and was another dry and sunny month. The most remarkable feature of that July was the peristently sunny skies clocking up 328 hours of sunshine. The were 18 consecutively cloudless days from the 5th to the 22nd! I thought it would never end - shame it did. It was a notable month in Tideswell, too. The mean max of 23.3 was 3.4 deg above average. 183 hours of sun was 138% of average. Perhaps the most striking feature of the month was the very skewed rainfall distribution. The first 3 weeks of the month produced almost no rain at all then it poured down during the last 10 days, making it the wettest July I have recorded here, with a total of 170 mm. Most remarkable of all was 89 mm of rain falling in 8 hours during the night of 27th/28th. -- Norman Lynagh Tideswell, Derbyshire 303m a.s.l. http://peakdistrictweather.org |

Similar rainfall pattern here too with only 1.9 mm falling in the first 24 days (no rain at all from the 4th to the 24th) then 10.3 mm on the 25th and rain then fell on 4 of the 6 final days of the month. Though in this case the rainfall was mostly light and patchy and the monthly total ended up at 28.6 mm. -- Nick G Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalleyweather.me.uk |

I sometimes wonder if the weather gods are mocking snow lovers. You couldn't get synoptics like this for love nor money back in that insanely mild December we've just had but here we are towards the back end of April. I'm not over-excited mind, A proper covering would be interesting but the thought of watching wet snow swirling around in a raw wind without a hope of settling isn't something that fills me with much anticipation. Still, heavy snow at the end of April is hardly unprecedented. April 1981, anyone? ------------------------------------------------------------------ Was looking at tha. It's bloody typical. Planned a week away in the heat of the South Coast at Christchurch that week. I bet you any money you like that those synoptics don't erode away to nothing as every equivalent lot at 10 days have in the winters of the last three years !! As they say, you couldn't make it up! As for Monday 25th it looks like we may get two to three inches of crystallised water. I'll have to look at my old weather report book from 1981. I was a socialist back then and wanted to write down any perceived misdemeanours of the atmosphere. I remember the winter of 1981/82 which was very bad from the POV of peoples extremities. Near to me at Newport (Salop) was the coldest winter night at -27c for the land of the angles. --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus |

Shawbury recorded -25.2 on 13/12/1981, but "only" got down to -24 in Jan 1982. Hey Freddie fast fingers, you’ve posted the same message in triplicate. I remember Jan 82, as the time I went to college on my push bike. Whilst I was cycling, I was shivering for a time, then I stopped shivering, and I was confused because I was thinking I maybe warm, yet I wasn’t sweating. I felt a bit dizzy outside the college chaining my bike to some railings. The S**t it the fan as soon as I went into the college. The heat overcame me and I fainted, hitting the back of my head on a radiator. The college nurse of ebony was called, and gave me a chair to sit on, and a tincture of Camellia sinensis with plenty of milk and sugar. She stayed with me until I was well enough to go to my lectures on business monies. I said to the nurse of ebony, “God bless you”, my jerry was well out of line.
