Copley soared to 12.8C todayÂ*above the inversion after a min of -3.9C, grass -9.4C
Sun 5.7hr electronic, 5.1hr Campbell Stokes
Monthly sun now 94.4hr electronic, 86.5hr Campbell Stokes, norm around 80hr

While in Tideswell, at 300m but below the inversion, we had fog all day with a
max of only 3.1C

While in Tideswell, at 300m but below the inversion, we had fog all day with a
max of only 3.1C

What height was the inversion; does anyone know? And what height is Copley? I guess it is more than 303 m asl.

Copley Lead Mill site day max 5.0C(nearly 8C down on the MetO site), just 400 metres away and 50 metres lower into the valley. Sunny all day here but the Lead Mill screen sees no sun until February and creates its own inversions anyway. Further into the inversion at Bishop Auckland we had to wait until 2pm for confirmation that the ground had thawed sufficiently for the match to go ahead.

We had a walk yesterday afternoon and at 350m we were in bright sunshine above
the inversion. In the dales the top of the fog was at about 320 metres. The
inversion was obviously at a higher level here than at Copley or perhaps there
was cold air pooling in the dales. That doesn't often happen because there's
usually a bit too much wind. Yesterday, though, the wind was pretty light. The
webcam at Harpur Hill, at about 375m on the outskirts of Buxton, showed fog
pretty well all day. Again, that might have been 'home grown' rather than the
product of some broadscale inversion. The webcams at the Cat & Fiddle (515m)
and Flash Bar (467m), both around 9 miles SW from here, showed crystal clear
air and strong sunshine all day. Who'd be a forecaster!

Do your record show more snow falls in your area compared to records for a similar region to Tideswell?

I get the impression your region is quite susceptible to mists and associate them with snowfall for reasons I can't explain. Maybe because of the drop in temperatures overnight?
