power cut linked to aurora activity?

We've had numerous short power outages recently, and a slightly longer
one today. I notice it coincided with a spell of high activity before
midday. Anyone else having electrical problems?

Here in Montreal, there has been very little power problems. But, in many
areas radio communications has been very poor at times. Short-wave
listening has also been very poor these days.

There was a black out in Sweden linked to the storm:

Luckily spaceweather forcasts enabled electrical utltites and other
industries affected by geomagnetic activity to prepare for it..... Unlike
the March 1989 event.

Thanks. Could have been more than coincidence then.

Anita

Nothing like that in Brampton - apart from the usual flicker around 6pm
which appears to occurr every night as people arrive home, put the TV on etc
(ps - great photos by the way )

Hi,

We had three power cuts last night. The longest from 4.15 to 6.45. ( Great
for hallowe'en since there was no street lights!!!!)

It was caused by some high voltage overload.... or something like that.

Two tiny half second ones (but enought to reset my computer) on
Wednesday night - just as I was seeing my first-ever aurora.

Coincidence, or what?

Much more likely to be caused by poor maintenance of the grid by the
local company; we have far more power cuts now than in the past.
