"An environmentally friendly alternative to rock salt will be tested on
roads in County Durham this winter.

Eco-Thaw is a liquid by-product of sugar beet processing and could prove
a cheaper alternative to rock salt and without its corrosive qualities.

Durham County has more than 2000 miles of roads and often suffers the
worst of the winter weather.

Although Eco-Thaw can be sprayed onto roads directly, it is most likely
to be used as a supplement to salt stocks."

A friend of mine works in the gritting and snow clearance department, so
I'll let you know how it goes. If it means less corrosion for my car,
then I'm all for it.
