A friend's up near Tain in his caravan and was texting me this morning whilst
I was away from home, telling me that the A9's blocked by drifts... Just got home and taken a look at the BBC's Scottish travel site which is reporting the following: - A939; TOMINTOUL NORTHBOUND BETWEEN A939; [Tomintoul] and A939; [TOMINTOUL] CLOSED AFFECTING ALL DRIVING LANES CLOSED BOTH WAYS BETWEEN TOMINTOUL AND THE LECHT BECAUSE OF BLIZZARD CONDITIONS. (BBC Travel) LAST UPDATED: 2003/12/27 14:31:17 B974 [DEE STREET] BANCHORY BETWEEN B974 [BANCHORY] and B974 [BANCHORY] BLOWING SNOW ON B974 DEE STREET FROM BRIDGE STREET. (BBC Travel) LAST UPDATED: 2003/12/27 13:41:42 A916; BALCURVIE BOTH WAYS AT A916; [Balcurvie] CLOSED CLOSED BOTH WAYS AT BALCURVIE, EAST OF GLENROTHES BECAUSE OF FLOODING (BBC Travel) LAST UPDATED: 2003/12/27 04:28:35 So as we see their reports are all over the place ![]() Nothing amiss down here in Northallerton apart from much cooler than yesterday, and quite a bit windier ! -- Nick in Northallerton nrw7 on Yahoo! The message
from Nick contains these words: A friend's up near Tain in his caravan and was texting me this morning whilst I was away from home, telling me that the A9's blocked by drifts... Just got home and taken a look at the BBC's Scottish travel site which is reporting the following: - snip Alice in Wonderland stuff Shopping in Tain myself this morning, not a trace of last night's snow although A9 at Slochd would have been affected. The BBC travel sites are a joke - issued from the Central Belt and probably don't even know where the places are. ITV (Grampian) are a little better but tend only to report on Aberdeenshire roads. Road reports go into the same bin as forecasts up here - we make up our own minds from our own experience. Phil. It did rain in Fife yesterday but was not spectacular - went for a walk round Birnie Loch without getting more than very, very slightly damp. However it was 'bracing' on the beach at Burntisland this morning! Nothing amiss down here in Northallerton apart from much cooler than yesterday, and quite a bit windier ! -- Five Cats Email to: cats_spam at uk2 dot net |

Just got home and taken a look at the BBC's Scottish travel site which is
reporting the following: - details snipped we see their reports are all over the place ![]() I looked at various teletext and online road reports on 27 December 2003 too. The one that amused me most was that the A9 was hazardous, or difficult, or blocked, or something, from Drumochter summit - northbound!! I found this a bit hard to believe, as it's a single carriageway road over the summit and for several miles to the north. However, as I was travelling southbound, I decided to ignore the above report, and drove uneventfully all the way down the A9 from Kinveachy to Ballinluig on a nice safe black snow-free surface. Now that I am safely home again, I'd like to wish everyone a Happy New Year, including as much interesting weather as you all could ever want. Anne |
