Default Inverted diurnal temperature variation

Here's one for the collectors of odds and sods:

Here in Luton the temperature at 0900 was 16.5ºC and
falling gently; it continued to fall to a minimum of 14.4ºC
at lunchtime, then, once the rain stopped, it began to
climb slowly, finally reaching the day's maximum of
17.6ºC at 2100.

I've seen dramatic temperature falls before in July in
showers and storms, and at cold fronts, famously on
9th July 1993 when the midday temperature was widely
below 10ºC, but I cannot ever recall a July day -- indeed,
a summer day -- when the usual diurnal temperature régime
between 0900 and 2100 was completely inverted (i.e. a
simple decline followed by a simple rise).

Not quite so stark an inversion here in Warlingham, but the min was at 11
a.m. and the max at 5 p.m., the former being a very unusual time for a minimum
on a day in high summer. My adopted regime of 12-hr max's and mins (8 am, 8
pm) normally never runs into trouble in summer, but it did today.

A very similar pattern here in St Albans with a minimum of 15.0°C at
1200 and a maximum of 19.3°C at 2000. The mean maximum for the month is
currently 24.1°C with a mean of 18.4°C.
