Now 2.3°C here in Canterbury. Temperatures this afternoon peaked at
about 2°C at lunchtime-ish before dropping away to 0.5°C at 1800. They
then rose as the cloud cover increased from the north.

Where's this snow we were "promised"?
Yet another winter bites the dust? :-(

I wondered how long it would be before the "winter is written off" posts arrive
:-)

Well I'm still optimistic for a possible Iceland block and a very cold
northeasterly once this zonal spell runs out of steam in a couple weeks. Very
low confidence of course but in line with the current Met Office published
monthly outlook one-liner.

Will.

But don't forget the "?" at the end of my sentence. It's therefore a
question and not a statement!
So you think we might get some cooler weather in a couple of weeks. I won't
hold my breath. ;-) :-)

.... Don't include me in that! I've just been re-reading some of last year's
posts around this time of year. Our first cold spell started about now. It
lasted a week with good snow. On December 30th it had been 12C at midnight!
After Jan 12th it was the same doom and gloom only for another snowy spell
to appear on the 30th Jan. As I've always said - anything more than 5 days
ahead is usually speculation.

Dave, now 1.7 C.

I'm still holding out for coldness to be back by 22nd January. At least
that's the day that I'm travelling from one end of the country to the
other and something's bound to go wrong!

Last year when I did a similar trip at a similar time of year I missed
the nastiness by only 24 hours (remember the M11?); similarly the two
years before that!

It doesn't snow much in this part of the world but when it does it's
usually when I'm trying to get from A to B.

Jonathan
