Ironically on returning to Coulsdon there was no more than just a thin
veneer of snow on the ground.

A veneer? Yep. The North-East Surrey Slush Polishers were out in force.
My own weather diary mentions "a snow cover (just about) but soon gone" for the
following morning. It was all that rubbing.

January 1987 was far more severe in the Medway area, where I was living at
the time. The largest urban area in the Southeast outside of London was
completely cut off by the huge amounts of snow. 1991 was memorable as I got
the car stuck in snow in Chatham town centre, but just does not compete with
1987.
