Default Ice day for some

Ice day for some in northern and central Greece, also for the northernmost
suburbs of Athens, as day time temperatures failed to reach 0.0C over many
areas. Some night time minima:

Ptolemaida: -12C
Grevena: -11.4C
Kozani: -9C
Naousa: -8C
Retziki, Thessaloniki: -7.7C
Alexandroupolis: -7C
Giannitsa: -6.4C
Larisa: -6C
Tripolis: -6C
P. Penteli (Athens): -4.5C
Thessaloniki: -4C
E. Athens: -1.3C

....all the way up to +9C at Kefallonia. Mykonos has been reporting snow
grains throughout most of the day, while Kos, in the southeastern Aegean,
reported snowfall earlier, too.

Yannis, SE Athens
+1.6C atm slowly dropping. Ground frost causes any water spilled on surfaces
freeze within a few seconds. Some snow flurries yesterday evening.

Forgive my ignorance, Yannis, but snowfall at Kos must be very exceptional?

Yes, snowfalls in the southeastern Aegean are quite exceptional (speaking
about low lying areas). Strangely enough, though, it appears that this is
the second time in eleven months that it snows there.

Kos is very close to the Turkish mainland, isn't it? I would have thought that
snow or at least sub-zero temperatures might be quite common?

Yes, Kos is only a couple of miles from Turkey. It is well sheltered from
northerlies, easterlies and northeasterlies from the turkish mainland, so
frosts are not frequent at all, certainly not by the coasts.
