Did I miss something? It was dull, mainly windy and wet and relatively mild
here for January.

Better still Dave, I counted Darren Bett using the "Mild" word no less than
thirteen times during that forecast, almost to wind-up proportions.
Roll on summer and see if they have the same enthusiasm about the word
"HOT".
Also the possibility of some colder air moving into the east later in the
week, but it looks like the milder air will persist right up to the weekend.
How contradictory is that then??

I think I missed that too!
Southern bias I would imagine as there was some unexpected snow
in the south last week.

Interesting to see them forecasting a mild week but with the *possibility*
of cold air moving in at the end of the week.

We shall see!

My impression was that they were covering their backsides, given the
models information in front of us anything is possible, but in past
years we would have been more condident about it, now we are not until
it actually happens.

Southern bias I would imagine as there was some unexpected snow
in the south last week.

It's not contradictory. It's telling it like it is.
People are always moaning about how the Met Office don't
emphasise uncertainty enough and now they are being honest
about it, you are complaining!

I was quite impressed with the uncertainty, beyond midweek, clearly stated.
The cold scenario is a low probability outcome, but the fact it was
mentioned at all is an encouraging sign. Maybe one or two of them have
been reading this newsgroup:-)

Certainly wasn't cold or frost down here in the SE. The only parts of
Britain which were cold and Frosty was the North.

And West Wales. The last two nights have been very frosty. Last night
the temperature fell to -4.4C.
