It's certainly preferable to hot weather. Anything is better than last
August.

Agreed. I felt quite ill on the 10th, the hottest day.

Its nice and cool , romantic , fun for kids , even brings out a dunkirk
spirit in little communitys.

However , I know one person who will loose several days pay if he cannot get
to work. An elderly couple who need meals on wheels, and then theres the
countless idiots who will try and drive to work in the hope that the boss
says "well done. Have a medal" when in reality they get there and find no
other person has turned up.

Get a grip guys. Snow is nice when your 10 , not when your 50. I guess a lot
off you would change your minds if you ended up with severe weather damage
to you r houses , relatives in hospital due to slipping on ice.

For me , I will wake up , see 8inches of snow , close curtains and go back
to bed.

My ideal situation though will be to get to work , get snowed in for three
days , and cover the shifts who cant get to work. Loadsa Money

This sort of discussion always crops up in these situations.

It is a well-known fact that some people get excited whenever there is
a natural (or man-made) event of some consequence predicted or
actually occurring.

No doubt there are people in California who get excited about the
prospect of an earthquake. As we know there are many people who are
fascinated by hurricanes and tornados. During the war I could easily
imagine some people getting a sort of thrill during an air-raid.

It is just part of the human psyche. No-one except those with a
deficient personality would actually like to see anyone hurt or even
inconvenienced, quite apart from the fact that we will all pay for the
consequences in increased insurance premiums.

I joked last year that a good snowfall is better than sex for some
people, perhaps this is not far wrong and the adrenalin rush etc is
not dissimilar.

I count myself amongst those who are fascinated by extreme events but
don't like the consequences, creating a sort of cognitive dissonance.

I thought of how everyone was at the same time enthralled but appalled
on September 11, 2001.

So do I. In theory, and provided I don't *have* to go out when it's

actually
blizzarding or lying deep on the roads. I love it when I am on skis and

the
sun is shining on it. I hate it when it is wet and dirty and melting.

In a perfect world there would be tons of powdery snow above say 1500 feet
above sea level, and none at all below that. There would. furthermore,

never
be any dreich grey days.

Anne

And June/July/August temperatures would never go higher than 26/27C *ever*
and would *always* be 15C on those nights.

But if all that above were true, wouldn't the weather then become boring ;-)

And there is *^* all you can do about it. Whether you like it or not..
you get it, you live with it. Its not going to snow because some of
us wish it.

Will she have her "Neon" the sledge and taking the "Lead"?

Hum, so why do I have more than a weeks worth of non perishable food
in the cupboards, backup lighting, heating and cooking provision,
plenty of warm clothing and excess warm bedding etc etc

Wonder how many have wives and girlfriends? Few.

Partner and two kids (7 & 4). SWMBO doesn't like snow all that much
but the two kids do, unfortunately being at 1400' snow is quite often
powder and useless for constructional purposes. Still at least my kids
get to build two or three snowmen a year. I was speaking to an old
college friend who lives in Birmingham the other day, his eldest is
not that short of going to university, they have never built a
snowman...

All faces I saw yesterday were happy ones. People started smiling when the
little blue whole in the sky was replaced by a continuous light grey cloud
cover and the heavy snow came in and started settling on the ground. No
matter their rush, everyone was -or at least seemed- happy.

I remember January 2002, when snow accumulations were much more significant.
People would throw snowballs to total strangers and receive a big smile and
even bigger snowballs in return. Everyone seemed happy.

Enjoy the cold spell and hope that it will be snowier than is now forecast.
Maybe it will add a smile on your face as a response to the total strangers
that smile to you -the only grounds for it being that it will be snowing!
