The press have gone mad...
Watching the news tonight (Central) they are spending far to much time
talking about the weather.. They have even setup a phone line called "Flakewatch" where you can send a text in to say you have seen a flake of snow.. one woman was quoted as saying she had seen 12 flakes in Shropshire.. Now I do like a bit of snow, but the media hype is really starting to get on my nerves.. Terrible wasn't it Robert. From interviews with Asda employees in Blackburn, to even sending a reporter out with a gritter. I liked how Nichola Dixon said "I think we are getting a little excited" at the end of it all. However, great report on the Lake District mountain weather station and also the fantastic views of the Isle of Skye. Joe |

Yeah that was interesting going up to the weather station but I just
couldn't believe the hype at the beginning and talking about schools being closed at radio lancashire HQ was just taking it to the extreme. Robert East Lancashire "Joe Hunt" wrote in message ... I think the media have lost the plot nowadays when it comes to the
weather, just wait for the blame culture bit after the event, which ever way it goes! Steve -- "The UK SpeedTrap Guide" @ http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk "The UK Weather Guide" @ http://www.ukstorms.com I'm just ever glad I stopped buying any newspaper over 1 year ago precisely because of the increasing hype by any of them over anything. It's bad enough having to hear second hand about their current hype over a bit of ordinary winter weather without having it thrust in my face as the front page story in a newspaper. I hate to think how they'd handle '63, '79 or even the short cold spells of '87/'91 now!. 1991 was bad enough at the time, even in the broadsheets, for a couple of cm of snow which did not survive the whole of the following weekend where I was at the time in Kilmarnock. BTW, here in Malvern, clear sky until about 15 mins ago, some cloud spreading from N. The 21:00 satellite picture and 20:00 radar suggest this may be the leading edge of the main disturbance. At least the clear sky will have lead to some ground cooling ahead so what falls may lie rather than melting, only to re-freeze behind the disturbance in the clearing sky. -- Pete Please take my dog out twice to e-mail --------------------------------------------------------------- The views expressed above are entirely those of the writer and do not represent the views, policy or understanding of any other person or official body. --------------------------------------------------------------- |
