Default milder westerlies...

Looking at the current conditions it looks like people underestimated the
milder westerlies pushing in ahead of the cold front coming down from the
north - Shawbury 5C and Staverton 6C whilst only a few miles away Cosford 1C
and Pershore 3C respectively. Yes there is cold air coming down from the
north... I hope.

They mentioned up to 6°C for the extreme SW on the Radio 4 forecast just
before 8am this morning.

Yeap,
But it's not just the SW geeting the milder air - look at the
current conditions: http://www.xcweather.co.uk/

You are right because it's risen to 3C here in Essex with 5C just to the
west. Not sure of the significance in terms in what is happening to the
North.

Think we are looking at rain/sleet to tell the truth in the SE, the front
which follows through after may give a brief period of snow and bring
subzero temps - lots of ice tonight, looks tricky.

A steady rise in temperature here, currently 3.5°C (1500hrs). Seems a little
higher than the forecasts I saw. Lying snow still hanging on, but only just.

All the best
