Philip Eden Luton (155m AMSL) And I think it was little old me that first raised the question on this NG of strong winds for the weekend whilst all of you were still getting excited over a couple of cms of the white stuff!! You should have been out on the sea yesterday, that's when you really appreciate "nature" at it's most fierce....the waves were huge, in between the swell when windsurfing back in you could not see the land when in the troughs.... Anyway currently this am wind is only F4 - whilst the inshore is forecasting SW f6 - 8 weather reports and picture at www.seaspritesports.com/weatherframe.htm Regards WC |

I think that's at least the fifth time you've posted that. Do you think repetition enhances your reputation, even if it were true? The contrary I think. Thankyou, no. I've been in the northern North Sea in a force 12, and I have no wish to experience that again. Philip Eden |

On the contrary I think - I admit in my postings to having a "limited" knowledge - however it amuses me how with my "old salty sea dog" observations I tend to get it right compared to all the so called experts" - and today just another case in point - Forecast inshore F6 - F8 actual, just about managing F4!! |

I'd be surprised if you failed more than occasionally. And good luck to you. But, please, don't keep telling us. You must have noticed one or two others on this newsgroup who keep telling us how clever they are ... do you think that makes people more likely or less likely to touch their forelock? Philip Eden |

I must say that in the whole of my local area (stretching from the Solent coastline to Southampton) the "couple of cms" of white stuff was more unusual, caused more problems, disruption and excitement than yesterday's winds. Maximum gusts of 58 mph (Southampton Airport) and 68mph (Solent MRSC) are more common in these parts than 36 hours of snow and ice/frozen slush on the ground. I'm pretty sure that more damage and personal injury would (unfortunately) have been caused by the snowstorm and its after effects than from yesterday's gales. Which is not to minimize the seriousness of such gales for seagoers (and potentially others, too)... but neither should the snowstorm be dismissed lightly. -- Dave Fareham. |
