I've been looking at the La Crosse WS2300 as can be found at
http://www.ukweathershop.co.uk/acatalog/lctws_sub.html I only have a cheap Oregon Scientific Wireless temperature and humidity sensor at the moment so am looking for like a medium quality weather station with most features (wind, rainfall). I don't know much about all the brands available e.t.c. or things but does anyone have any experience with La Crosse (and specifically this model) and is it suitable for someone like me who's never had a proper weather station before Cheers Liam |

Hi Liam
It's a cheap and cheerful weather station. I got mine last year (never had a weather station before) and I'm happy with it. It was fairly pain less to set-up and runs fine. The only downside to the station is the software that comes with it. Allot of people use http://www.weather-display.com/ as a replacement although I run my own software http://www.apritch.myby.co.uk/uiweather.htm Andy. "Liam Tallis" wrote in message ... Don't think much of the wind guage, the ws2500 one looked a lot better.
I've also recently been having a few problems with the rain guage. Its all wired, not wireless, maybe its my wiring rather than the unit... Overall it was good value and I'm pleased with it - the ws2500 was just too expensive. One thing I will vouch for is Andy's uiweather s/w. I've got it installed and its excellent. So its an alrite system for the first time user but use the UIweather s/w
instead? Liam "Telboy" wrote in message ... Don't think much of the wind guage, the ws2500 one looked a lot better. I've also recently been having a few problems with the rain guage. Yup, its alright. It comes with HeavyWeather S/W which is OK, you have the
choice of upgrading for a further £50 to WeatherDisplay - the main advantage is FTP upload to a web page. I didn't bother and later found in this regard Andy's s/w does just as well. I went to the Eastbourne shop and had a look at the units. http://www.ukweathershop.co.uk/ Have a Google for WS2300 there's lots of discussion including some interesting debate on the wireless use and battery life - though can't remember exactly what forum now. No doubt these units are good fun and for the monet provide excellent value and fun. HTH Terry "Liam Tallis" wrote in message ... Another possibility is the WMR112 kit
http://www.meteorologica.co.uk/product.asp?P_ID=51 it allows you to add the rain gauge and anemometer as funds allow! It is a full wireless system with all the sensors being seperate and the response time is 14 seconds for the wind rather than the 128 seconds from the WS2300. The downside is that it won't connect to a PC ![]() Tim West www.meteorologica.co.uk "Liam Tallis" wrote in message ... Cheers for your inputs guys! Liam "Telboy" wrote in message ... Its sample rate is 30 seconds, meaning it misses gusts (3 second winds). The cheapest Davis gear (around £150/£200 Weather wizard) has a far more accurate anemometer (it samples at 3 seconds). I have the Davis Monitor 2 which is outstanding and is an upgrade to the wizard in that it also records Rain/humidity/pressure. It did cost about £350 though. Have a look at www.ukweathershop.com and www.weatherstations.co.uk my website using Virtual Weather Station software www.weatherwise.org.uk |
