The 11.25 Terra/MODIS pass today shows the snow cover, where there is
little cloud, very well. There seem four main areas covered - th NW of
Ireland near me, the N of Scotland, NE England and SE Scotland and Wales.

I've cropped a couple of images out of the main one and put them he

Anyone wanting to see them will need to be patient, as the servers are very
slow at present. The images will appear though:-)

Excellent cropped images Mike, and very useful for those of us in
'narrowbandland'.
Interesting that there appears to be little or no snow cover in the SW
Scottish Highlands.

The last week has been blazing blue skies with no precipitation at all
here. Perfect hill walking weather :-)

Very good Mike, thanks :)

Have you noticed the patch/line in the middle of the country that appears to
be missing the snow... Appears to be in my sort of area - can't quite pinpoint
it exactly as the Eastern coast outline is obscured by the cloud cover - Have
save a screen capture from the 250Mtr Modis image and posted to
www.whelan.me.uk/uploads/Snowcover28Feb04.jpg

I seem to recall some sort of discussion about something similar a few months
ago after the last snow - or was it last year ?!?!?

I see the patch you are referring to. I can only think the initial amount
that fell there was less than elsewhere. That happened here and to the
east of me on Thursday/Friday. As the northerly took on a slight easterly
component, NE parts of Ireland were sheltered by Scotland and the snow
showers were then confined to the western counties of Ulster. My photos
taken yesterday were in the eastern fringe of the lying snow. Here in
Coleraine and to my east, the thinner snow cover had already melted

It would have been useful to look at the MODIS image for Thursday, but the
site was having problems. On Friday, we were at the edges of the images
with the associated interference.

Yes, that would have been the fascinating front that rushed across GB on
the 29th January. I put an image on my website of that snow cover:

The snow cover in Wales almost follows the border with England.

As for here, no snow.
OT, off to see my team take on Wasps in the Cup, hope the pitch is OK.
