In addition to suggestions made so far have a look at
Understanding Flying Weather by Derek Piggott (ISBN 0 7136 4346 3) good for Bronze C syllabus Air Riders' Weather by Alan Watts (ISBN 0 7136 3570 3) http://tinyurl.com/2xhae links to an article by Tom Bradbury (you can navigate from there to other articles by Tom) who also writes in Sailplane and Gliding (UK)-but articles not available online). A Google search on 'gliding weather' should reveal some useful sites-mainly in North America as I recall. -- George in Epping, West Essex (107m asl) www.eppingweather.co.uk www.winter1947.co.uk "Martin Rowley" wrote in message ... You could also take a look at:
Meteorology for Glider Pilots, by C. E. Wallington (first published in 1961). This was the definitive text on gliding met. in its day and still contains a great deal of useful material. Thanks for you support on this. My copy is the Third (International) edition, published in 1977 by John Murray. I bought it when I first started gliding and it certainly helped to inspire my amateur interest in meteorology - combined of course with some direct experience of the atmosphere's mysterious ways :-) Robin Payne "Martin Rowley" wrote in message ... But, I would hope that (as in this country), IMGW might have some sort of lending capacity for specialist publications. Incidentally, (and this is for the benefit of those within UK), you can search for such, and many others, by using the National Meteorological Library and Archive 'Search' facility at:- http://www.metoffice.com/corporate/library/index.html I'll add this to the FAQ at next update:... a very useful facility.
