As the person in charge of energy management at work I have been
forced by the mob to turn the heating on! ITS MID SUMMERS DAY!!!. It
wouldn't be so bad if the last few weeks hadn't been so warm. I would
have hoped that some of the warmth would have stayed in the ground and
with the short nights the temperatures not fall back so much. This
along with the strenght of the sun at this time of the year.

Sorry for being picky Simon, but Mid summers day is not until 24th June as
it is a quarter day, today is the first day of summer (The summer solstice)

Probably the date you notice the days shortening, like Yule being
celebrated c.24 December.

We used to celebrate it too.. Bring it back...
