Except that you wrote

minith

The first i should be the neutral vowel.

It's not 'muh-' to a northerner.

What is it then, please?

The so-called neutral vowel. Y can be the same as i in 'thin', but
here it's like the -er in 'copper' or the o in 'button'. A bit

like
southern English u.

Called in the business a "schwa", and represented in
pronunciation threads on language newsgroups as
a "@" ... eg 'kop@ for "copper" in British English.

Don't we have the correct symbol for a schwa somewhere?
Would it show up properly here?

I understand what you are saying now. It does get pronounced minith
around here, though.

f you can't agree on the Welsh pronunciation you could always stick to the
English. One world, one language, far simpler.

Compared with the variety of dialects and subsequent variations in
pronunciations of English words by Englishmen - I prefer to keep Welsh
as the easier language, much easier.

I've heard it quite often too. There seem to be lots of variations in
Welsh pronunciation.

Not as many as there are in English. :-)

Have you not come across the neutral vowel, Bill?
It's common usage in phonetics.

In the phonetic alphabet it is written like an 'e' upside down. I doubt if
it would show up properly in a Usenet post.
