At my talks whilst Redhill still is enquired about from the public due to
its often mentioned cold temperatures another name is now beginning to take
prominence. A place that was promoted I believe by the Met Office[ I am
right Martin} as being less extreme than the nearby Redhill aerodrome and
perhaps more representative of the area- the place Charlwood. But was has
happened is that Charlwood is proving a hot spot and is in the news almost
as much as Redhill. It shows what I have been saying for over 26 years in
the local Redhill papers is that east Surrey with its hills, valleys,
variable geology and southerly aspects is an interesting area for Weather
extremes and I have not even mentioned the Chipstead Valley..

Hi, Ian,

Another very important factor is the high density of observing stations
(to match the high population density) which makes it far more likely to
pick up peculiarities.

The nearest MO sites to Copley are Durham, Burnhope, Widdybank Fell and
Teesside airport - all greater than 15 miles away.

Copley is the only MO site in the whole of Teesdale!
