Hi Danny,

I wouldn't say "crap" there is actually a lot of good stuff on the sites, eg.
the climatological infomation and research pages.

But as far as getting forecast information across my *personal* opinion is that
they are poor. Also the "look and feel" of the top page doesn't seem right. The
MetO one in particular is very commercial in its attitude and it doesn't gel
well with a PUBLIC SERVICE provider. It may change, we shall see. It also wasn't
designed by meteorologists but by outside consultants. I *personally* think that
was a big mistake.

Will.

Sigh, this country!!
I know you won't agree, Will, but you woudn't see this in America. In my
opinion of course.
That BBC weather website, and the METO one .. hmm , all looks very 'British'
to me.... e.g 'crap'
Peace, Danny.

I thought the bit about lengthy training in meteorology was missing but
I see that such is no longer required:

How are forecasts presented in the rest of Europe? Do they do it more
seriously or do they, like us, tend to regard it as entertainment? And what
about America, Canada, Australia etc? Has anyone got actual experience of
other countries' forecasts? Just interested.

Tudor Hughes.

Presumably in Sweden the presenters are naked :-)

Saw one in Austria and it had 3-D graphics of the Alps with rather cheesy
lightning flashes. Totally useless for working out where you were, but then I
was at a disadvantage as I couldn't understand what was being said !

I *personally* think things have gone too far with flashy graphics etc.
The best way to present weather to the public IMHO is with clear maps and with a
clear and structured dialogue in plain English (or French/German etc).

Ok all, after reading your follow up comments, here's my point of view as an
interested weather person - note I'm a NONE 'Professional' unlike the rest of
you !

I like a good number of you can't stand the vague waffy way ITV present it
with their presenters... Much prefer the more informed method BBC use... Note
that I've never watched Channel 5 so can't comment but guess they'll be the
same as ITV...

The thing is, - now I'm not trying to justify either way it's done, - but
we're all looking at it from an interested person's perspective, you've got to
think that we'll be in the minority when it comes to those watching it...
Just look at the rest of the quality of TV that's out there...!

Now Tudor asked if anyone had seen any other countries TV WX, I've seen it in
Italy quite a few years ago... It was always presented by a military person in
full uniform... I couldn't understand it of course, but I seem to recall that
the graphics were very ITV !? I believe it's changed quite a bit now...
though not sure in what direction...

Just done
http://www.google.co.uk/search?ie=UT...er+forecast%22
which returns 2.88 million hits for English only !!! Goodness alone knows how
many you could dredge through if you turned off the English only ?!?!
