Steve Loft : Brian Wakem wrote: That's illegal isn't it, as it discriminates against able-bodied people? No. I've heard of this scheme before. I think if I were disabled I'd be against it, because I'd forever be going to interviews that both the employer and I knew I had no realistic chance of getting. What a waste of time! What a waste of time! You've completely boggled me there. You apply for a job where you know you are guaranteed an interview. You know you have no chance of getting the job, but you apply anyway and attend the interview. And then you complain it's a waste of time! Why apply in the first place? -- Steve Loft, Wanlockhead, Dumfriesshire. 1417ft ASL http://www.wanlockhead.org.uk/weather/ Free weather softwa http://cumulus.nybbles.co.uk/ Experimental webcam: http://www.wanlockhead.org.uk/webcam.php |

OK replace the second occurrence of the word "know" above with "suspect". I've applied for jobs in the past I suspect I didn't have a chance of getting, but I still hoped. If I'd had to go to interviews for all those jobs, I'd have been a little fed up, not to say disheartened. In the end I got one. Adrian -- Adrian Shaw ais@ Adran Cyfrifiadureg, Prifysgol Cymru, aber. But it's *positive* discrimination. ![]() "Steve Jones" wrote in message ... http://www.metoffice.com/corporate/r...es/headcp.html I think this is a low salary given the qualifications and experience needed for the job compared with what is available in other emploment sectors. This possibly explains why these subjects are becoming less popular at university than other courses. You are talking about six or seven years as a student before getting your PhD and probaly severable years after that at a derisory rate of pay as a resaerch assistant. This is a very unattractive proposition given the high cost of housing in the UK. Alan |

Mind you nobody joins the MetO to get rich :-) But you do get to see 1Km resolution radar updated at 5 minute intervals LOL.
