MSG Reception from loft?

Hi all,

I have recently bought a satellite dish, pc card etc to try and receive
the MSG signal from hotbird. I would like to mount the dish in the loft
so that I don't have to have a large dish sticking out of the side of my
house.

I was wondering if any of you have done this and if it is viable due to
signal attenuation
from the tiles and such?

If this question is not appropriate here (meteosat reception is weather
related :o) )
then I would be very grateful if you would direct me to the correct place to
ask this question.

Thanks in advance

Konichiwa

Hi Konichiwa,

There is a separate very active yahoo group:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MSG-1/

Most of the folk in the group (like myself) have working MSG systems,
and some may even have an answer to your interesting question. I know
the Hotbird 6 transponder (KU band) has been received on dishes as small
as 65cms, so you don't have to have a large dish on the side of the
house. I have a small dish patio mounted to avoid the problem.

I imagine that the answer might depend on the type and thickness of the
tiles and the size of the dish. It may also depend where

If you are thinking 'C' band then the dish size of course has to be much
greater to begin with.

Look forward to reading you in the group,

James
