Default Met office rainfall animation changes (and breaks)

A few days ago it was changed from hourly intervals to 30 minute intervals.
Good, except that (on my XP PC with IE at least) the "step" button no longer
works - the radar image just blanks out.

Just tried it with IE6 on Win98SE, and everything seems to work fine
here.

Anybody at the Met Office reading this?

Many thanks for all the advice. I didn't have this problem before they
changed to 30 minute intervals, so it's been triggered by something they
have changed.

1. Yes I am using IE on XP home SP1. However when I tried Opera it worked
just fine (although the Play and Stop buttons don't display correctly). So
it is apparently browser specific.

2. I have tried deleting temporary files, but that didn't make any
difference.

3. One oddity is that (with IE) if I hover over "show place names" then move
back to the (blank) picture, it then displays.

I suspect that it may well be a Javascript issue.

The good news is that I have just installed Firefox, and it works
perfectly - although it has different ideas about the spacing of the buttons
from other browsers. Don't you just love the consistent way that browsers
render HTML.

I tried it on my work PC today (Windows 2000 running IE) and it behaved
exactly the same way. However we appear to be in a minority of two! I thint
the MetO techies need to have a look at this one.

I should get Firefox. It's free and seems more responsive than IE. (Step
also works.)

I've had problems as well with the MO rainfall animation. I've deleted
the temp internet files, and it doesn't solve the problem.
I find that the animation works once and then I have to reload the
animation for it to work.

It may be something to do with line contention, as I find that it does
work in the dead of night say about 1/2am. But not in the daytime. It
may be something to do with the MO server. perhaps they don't want bods
from the west midlands accessing there site. ;-)

Yes I have noticed that when you click on "play", often it's very slow and
some images are skipped altogether. Although IHTS that's far more likely
with IE than Firefox.

However it gets worse. Now all of the images are showing the dreaded "red
cross". Methinks that there is something seriously wrong with their software
at present. Let's hope they fix it - I really wanted to know when the
current (Manchester) band of rain would clear :-)

Anybody know of an email address for contacting their techies?

Brian

I see those red crosses as well. The code/or paths must have changed. The
html file I have on my desktop still works fine though and shows all the
images. If you'd like a copy to run of your desktop, let me know by email
as your email address seems to be an antispam one.

These links will get you the latest radar image and is from the code on
that MetO page.

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/...a/3EF_PS_0.GIF

or

http://www.meto.gov.uk/weather/europ...a/3EF_PS_0.GIF

Why it isn't appearing when embedded in the source code I have no idea. I
guess it could be a java script problem.
