Default British Isles Outlook - 11th to 20th November 2004

MANY SHOWERS OVER THE NORTH AND NORTH-WEST OF THE COUNTRY. ALTERNATING
SPELLS OF HIGH PRESSURE CROSSING THE SOUTH. MILDEST IN THE SOUTH-EAST:

The single chart for the period 11th to 20th November, shows a
depression to the west of Scotland stretching across north Scotland
towards SW Norway. HP covers the south and south-east areas of
England. Winds are generally south-west to west across the country.
The 500mb top. winds are in agreement with the surface winds. The
strongest surface winds are in the W and E of Scotland. Coolest
area is to the W and N of Scotland and mildest area is the S and SE of
England.

On 11th, coolest area is Scotland with some cool air coming into the
SW of England. Mildest air is over SE England. On 12th to 17th,
cooler air in the NW and a surge of warm air coming into the SW of
the country keeping the south coast generally mild. but some dips in
the temperature now and again in the SE of England. On 18th, cooler
air starts to collect in the NW of the country, and the SE of England
begins to feel some milder air. On 19th and 20th, cool air lies to
the west of the country and spreads eastwards as far as the milder
air in the east and south-east of England.

The run of weather starts on Thurs. 11th with LP to the NW of Scotland
and a secondary depression lies near S Ireland. HP over the near
continent just covers the E and SE of England. Winds are mostly S or SW
but light in the E of the country, strongest in the N and SW of the
country. Heavy rain comes into the SW of the country and showers
cover W and SW Scotland.
On Fri. 12th, an area of LP to the NE of Scotland moves away. HP
near Ireland moves into the mainland, covering the south of England.
There may be a disturbance coming along the Channel. Winds N in the
extreme east of the country at first, then becoming variable, and
finally becoming SW in the west later. Some frost and fog developing
early and late. Strongest winds in the NW of the country.
On Sat. 13th, a LP to the W of Scotland spreads further E
towards mainland Scotland. HP covers E Scotland, the North Sea,
England and Wales. A small depression approaches the SW of
Ireland. Winds are light in the centre and E of the country turning
SSW in the west of the country. Showers in the west, but dryer in the
east with possible for and frost early and late.
On Sun. 14th, LP to the west of the country and HP over the near
continent covering E and SE and S England. Winds are S but light in
the E and S of England, strongest in the NW of the country.
On Mon. 15th, a depression near Iceland has a trough stretching
from NW/SE across the country to a small depression near SE England.
HP lies down the E coast of Scotland and England. Winds are S over most
of the country but may turn W in the SW of England later. Rain
showers spread east across the country.
On Tues. 16th, LP stretches W/E across the N of Scotland. A flat
ridge of HP comes into the S of England. Winds are W but turning SW in
the west of the country. Strongest winds to the W of Scotland. Showers
over most of the country, but dryest in the SW.
On Wed. 17th, A deepening depression comes into W Scotland and
extends from Northern Ireland to E Scotland. A secondary depression
moves towards W Ireland. Winds are mostly W over the country, being
strongest in the NW of the country. Showerws in the N and E of the
country and rain comes into the SW of the country later.
On Thurs. 18th, a deep depression lies to the NW of Scotland with
a trough down the western side of the country as far as S Ireland. HP
lies to the SE of the country. Winds are mainly SW Strongest winds to
the W of Scotland. Rain showers over most of the country. Dryest in
the SW.
On Fri. 19th, a depression lies to the W and NW of Scotland with
a secondary LP coming into Ireland. HP lies over the near continent.
Winds are SW in the east and W in the west of the country. Strong winds
expected over Scotland and some wind in the SW of England. Rain
showers over most areas.
On Sat. 20th, LP to the NW of the country moves east to the N of
Scotland with HP covering the S and SE of England. Winds light in
the south-east but SW in the west of the country. Winds strongest in
the NW and N. Rain showers over most of the country. Dryest along the
south coast.
