Please can I make an entry! Despite the fact that the temp has risen to a
massive 1.7C, the ground started frosty, the early morning snow settled, and several hours of almost uninteruppted moderate with heavy bursts of snow - it still won't settle. You can tell me all the things about solar radiation (we've had 20 mins direct today!) and SST's but I've never seen, in forty years of looking, snow failing to settle in February with these temperatures and conditions. RH of 100% could be more the problem maybe. Anyway, cleared now, hope for same amount overnight which might do better. Don't give tomorrow's system much chance if this didn't do anything though. We'll have an anticyclone here Thursday, so despite a hell of a lot of
sunshine it will be damn cold. It may be warm enough to snow, just so that -at long last, certain experts on this group finally get the message. You can call it global warming if it makes you feel better. Seems to me like Aaron's rod is eating Egyptian snakes though. (I just hope I am right about the next spell or I am going to look daft until a major quake strikes or a massive cyclone blows us all sideways.) |

Dave,
Air that is just 1c colder, I'm sure, would make all the difference. I think it is a case that the source of our "Siberian blast" is just not cold enough! |

Dave Well it is LATE February and soil temps before this cold spell were probably above normal... Stuart |
