Feeblest excuse heard for closing a school?
"John Hall" wrote in message ... My school never closed for a single day during the winter of 1962-3, though admittedly the worst of the snow was during the Christmas holidays. In my whole school career, I think there was only one day when snow prevented me from getting to school (and that was in early March one year). Back at high school in Leeds in the early 80's I could usually count on at least one day a year when the schools were closed. However the school was right at the highest part of the city and thus pretty exposed and conditions had to be fairly severe for it to happen. Dave.
I think its all to do with the claim culture we live in today, however you never see factories closed when theres a frost. Too much PROFIT lost if that were to happen. "Dave.C" wrote in message . uk... I'll start the ball rolling. Heard from a Headteacher from the south on Radio 5 Live this afternoon:- "The toilets might freeze" Let's hope he doesn't teach physics! Presumably the toilets are outside and they haven't heard of insulation. Even if it had been -10 every night this week that still wouldn't have happened! Doh! Dave |
