Intriguingly in the last couple of hours the temperature here has gone
from 10.8 to 12.5. The wind is very gusty now and maybe there is some embedded warm air being dragged in from somewhere. James -- James Brown |

This prompted me to have a look at the temperature here. Max this afternoon was 10.6C at 1810. It is now (1840) 9.0C and dropping rapidly. I don't know the current direction of any fronts but I suspect that this cold front is travelling in a SE direction. This means it should be with you shortly, James. -- Howard Neil (western end of the Brecon Beacons National Park, at 235 metres asl) |

Thanks for that Howard - the temperature peaked just shortly after that - now down to 12.1 - a fall of 0.4 in the last half hour, and falling more quickly as I write! Howard - an excellent idea of where the front is can be seen he http://www.xcweather.co.uk/ Curently, you'll see the mild SW winds over the south of Wales and England, and the much colder (and lighter) NE winds to the north of the front. There seems to be a wave (kink) in the front over western areas. That will be moving east as the front moves SE. -- Mike 55.13°N 6.69°W Coleraine posted to uk.sci.weather 18/11/2004 19:04:00 UTC |

It was last updated at 1709 and most sites show data as at 1600. Thank you for the explanation, though. I am too much of a beginner to identify the direction of the front from the diagrams. Now you explain it, I can see what you mean. Working it out for myself in the first place is a little more difficult. -- Howard Neil |

I have bookmarked it but it is not as easy for a beginner like myself to understand (I can work it out but it takes a little effort) and there are no stations anywhere near me. -- Howard Neil (western end of the Brecon Beacons National Park, at 235 metres asl) |
