I've no way of checking this but, measured in terms of the number of
hours with snow falling, I suspect that this has been the snowiest week
here for quite a number of years. Even today, when there isn't all that
much snow in the south, it has been snowing throughout the daylight
hours apart from the period 0915-1155. It snowed last night and there
was almost continuous snow yesterday.

Global warming or not, all it takes is the right synoptic situation.

Yes, but the whole scenario the last 72 hours has been 'borderline'.
Remembering the charts of the 60's and 70's, Denmark and Germany were always
down to the ms 10 to ms 20 mark during Jan and Feb. Even in this cold snap
they have barly been into day frost's. Where was the 510 dm line when you
needed it? It used to creep in from the east. We used to have easterly gales
with day maxs on the E coast of ms 04 (even in Devon once in the early
90's). Even with the almost 'perfect' set up, easterlies from Russia, its
only wet snow.

If this situation occurred in the mid-80s we'd get exactly the same amount

Isn't it supposed to be flirting with the east coast next Sunday/Monday?

I'm not sure that the source of the air has actually been as far away as
