ok Jonathan, thanks.
It's a shame that WL doesnt save the data in some sort of standard format that other programs can readily use. Once I start using another piece of software and downloading data with it, I cant go back to WL if I feel I need to, and maintain a constant record. I would probably use a third-party prog to generate better graphs and reports, and continue to use WL to download my data to keep all records in one format. Jim. "Jonathan Stott" wrote in message ... Jim Smith wrote: Jonathan, Do you download your data using Weatherlink and export it into another program? Would be interested in a third party program which can manipulate the raw Weatherlink data files (I have nine years of data now!) or can use an imported Weatherlink database in order to creates reports and graphs. So far, no such beast seems to exist and I dont really have the time or expertise to write one myself. The software automatically downloads straight from the station. I wrote a small piece of software that processed the data from records exported from WeatherLink (which is why I have data on my website going back to last September). The graphs on my website are dynamically created in real-time with the most up to date information - you don't need your own website as it's possible to install a local webserver and database and use those. One bonus is that it should be fairly simple to change the reporting period from 0000-0000 to 0900-0900 which is more "standard". I've not done that yet, but when I get time I'll give it a go. (I've just installed Linux so I've been a bit busy - the good news is that my software still works!) Jonathan -- Canterbury Weather: http://www.canterburyweather.co.uk/ |

When I get time, I'll finish it off and package it up and distribute it through my website. Thanks, Jonathan. I have bookmarked your website and look forward to trying the software. You now need a suitable title for it. Don't hold your breath just yet - I'm currently writing two papers for a conference and a journal, so I'm quite busy! I will hopefully get some time to look at it more after April. There will probably be two parts - the bit to download data from the Vantage Pro and another bit that will read data from a database and display it nicely on a webpage (local or on the Internet). Any ideas on a title?! -- Jonathan Stott Canterbury Weather: http://www.canterburyweather.co.uk/ |

I have waited long enough for a good weather data recorder/analyser. A little longer will not hurt. Any ideas on a title?! I have given this a little thought and have a few ideas that may start others thinking. First, the serious sounding titles. Most software of this type usually seems to start with "Weather......", so I have tried to avoid copying them and have come up with "Met Record" and "Met Data". Next I looked for something a little different and thought of "Front Line". There is a reference to a weather term but this program is, after all, to be the front line for all your weather data. Then I went for tongue in cheek humour with "At Least it Will be Mild". Absolutely no reference to what the program does but it should attract a little attention from usw. Of course, if you want it to be an irresistible download to the majority of those in usw, just call it "Snow". :-) -- Howard Neil |
