Nifty search facility too, these are the newsgroup posts exactly 8 years
ago, on 8th December 1996, (no records from 8/12/95):

Google can be forgiven for having nothing from 8/12/95, as the group
hadn't been created.

Some familiar names there!

And some familiar topics (eg attacks on hyped long range forecasts).

A search in Firefox gets me less bells and whistles than with the AOL
skinned IE browser. (No search by date offered for instance.)

Nice to see they have their data stored in the original order. Now if
they can just get the messages posted in a reasonable time instead of
the timetable used by the Post Office....

Indeed some stalwarts in there and familiar themes too as John says. Looks
like I first stumbled across the group in January of 1997, seems like
yesterday - and of course this was when I first came across the immensely
knowledgeable M. Rowley before I had the pleasure of working with him a year
or two later. Not to mention a certain W. Hand :-) Also brings back fond
memories of reading Paul's (Bartlett) evening model summaries and the
tantalising will it won't it set-ups. I haven't looked but I guess it
must've been the winter of 97/98 I'm thinking of and I can't remember now if
it did or it didn't ! The Google archives really are a fantastic resource.

Nostalgic cheers,
Jon.
