Thursday's report from the Free University of Berlin
http://www.met.fu-berlin.de/deutsch/...etterlage.html notes a striking effect of the inversion under the European anticyclone. At the station on the top of the Brocken in the Harz Mountains at 1142 m, 100% of the astronomically possible sunshine was recorded on Wednesday with relative humidity sometimes under 10%. At 02.00 UTC on Thursday the Brocken reported a temperature of 5.6°C, dew point -36.7°C and relative humidity of 3%. In Bavaria, Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the valley reported -7.5°C at 06.00 on Thursday. At the same time the station on the top of the nearby Zugspitze at around 3000 m was reporting only -1.8°C.
