If you want an educational weather channel, may I suggest that you start one yourself. From the BBC's Purpose and Values web page: "The BBC exists to enrich people's lives with great programmes and services that inform, educate and entertain". Note "inform and educate". http://www.bbc.co.uk/info/purpose/ -- Howard Neil Yes, but you could argue that a 'dumbed-down' weather forecast will still do all those 3, just not educate people to the level of meteorological knowledge required by weather enthusiasts. |

Yes, but there is no point in the licence payers complaining to the
weather presenters. The content of the programs is dictated by the producers, so complain to the BBC. If the producers want bimbos, they get bimbos. They may not admit it, but it is all about viewing figures. And the producers consider themselves to be in a position to know what a large majority of viewers want. And what the majority dont seem to want is a 'man from the ministry' lecturing breakfast time viewers on the finer points of positive vorticity advection. |

'Inform', certainly, as in it will/won't rain tomorrow. However 'educate' suggests something rather more in-depth, background knowledge if you like.
