Sand over Greece
Good afternoon, everyone.
Never again have I seen such a sand transfer from the Sahara desert. I woke up in a yellow light, now it's all reddish-yellow outside and visibility is down to around 500 m and dropping fast! Last night's light (mud)rain was the cause for instant, visible stains in clothes. Skies totally obscured with dust, land and air have become one. Yannis, SE Athens +20.8C, RH 45%, SLP 1000.1 hPa and dropping fast DU |

Amazing, Yannis, what sort of temperatures are you expecting in the next few days? I had a look at the chart and you are getting a hefty dose of sand from Libya. The dust itself has kept surface temperatures low here (max of +23.7C with T850 at around +13C -sorry, the sounding for Sunday noon appears to be a mess, might be a result of the dust itself?). Northern Crete, however, made it to +28C with the help of katabatic winds. Monday should see a drop in temperature as cooler air masses are approaching from Italy. Thunderstorms should develop especially over western, northern and northwestern Greece and the northeastern Aegean sea. Temperature maxima should range between 18C and 23C. Yannis, SE Athens +14.0C, RH 67%, SLP 1002.8 hPa considerably clearer atmosphere |
