Default email attack?

i am getting a load of email at the moment (from 4am last night) that in the
subject line are written in german, then a link is provided in the main body
of email.

Its very annoying, last hour has been quiet tho.

I use Trend micro for virus protection, updates every 3 hours, and that
sorts out spyware too.

I've had hundreds from something purporting to be Mike Tullett, for
example, and one of today's batches comes from coyney.demon.co.uk.
I'm not accusing anybody of spam attacks! Other batches come from
giganews and individual.net, so in fact, it looks as if there's a
problem in Germany somewhere. Turnpike bounces everything
automatically, so I haven't actually looked at any of them - some of
last week's carried viruses, but today's batch are just URL carriers.
Has anyone else had anything like this?

That's one hell of a lot of e-mails. I had the individual.net + sober
virus last week, probably about 100, however, that's all stopped now, and
funnily enough that was via a demon.co.uk account, not any others. Sounds
to be like you are getting SPAM which may have been harvested via a spy
ware trogan or something, hence using names that you are familiar with.
Do you use 'Search & Destroy' and 'AdAware' on top of your virus software
(Norton or AVG)?

yes, both of them, every week, and Etrust antivirus updated every day. I
don't think it's me that's infected , or the pattern would be different in
addition, I ran everything yesterday, so this morning's infestation is not
likely to have come from me). It may be some infernal combination of the
newsgroups I subscribe to plus the fact I've been in newsgroups for years,
but I still think there's a connection with the Berlin server somewhere.

I never, or very rarely get Spam.

I am using BT Openworld, broadband. Not sure if this is of any help, but I
subscribe to several newsgroups using my correct name & email address, I
just do not get to see any Spam at all.

Regards,

Pete

It looks like you are subject to some pimpled oik sending or trying to
send a DDOS. Quite illegal. I'd check with one of the asap webring
security forums and ask their advice. Maybe even get legal advice from
uk.legal.moderated.

You're lucky to get anything with Big Winkers. Why not do a write up to
a
computer magazine or some such that you are able to get on line with the
taussers? I'm sure others will be amazed.

And then you will get a lot of e-mail.

From people calling you a liar.

You must be damn lucky Pete. I get tons of spam to my e-mail address I
use as a return address when I post to newsgroups.

I always keep my personal e-mail private, and only give it to people I know.
