Default Miserable May 2005 so far

In Southampton it's actually been quite good up till Wednesday: despite
cold temperatures, it's been bright. However right now it's more like
November, and we seem to be heading for a very un-May-like spell of
weather with November drizzle and gloom till Tuesday, then August-like
humidity. Late May always seems to be a bit dubious: I think there's a
good case for moving the late May bank holiday, such is the frequency
of a 10-day or so spell of unseasonable weather.

Certainly very mixed, but temperature, rainfall (& probably sunshine) so far
not far from the 1971-2000 norm. The 14th was dreadful, like winter. On the
other hand 7th-12th were completely dry, with a lot of sunshine. Max Temps
ranged from 14.0 - 16.9 during this period, so not very warm, but not cold
either. (Warmest day so far this month just 18.3 on 1st).

Trough brought heavy shower 09:00 this morning, followed by much clearer
air, so I'm hoping for a fairly sunny afternoon here on the coast.

Generally it started cold, dry and dull; then it went cold, dry and sunny,
and now it has gone warm, dry and dull.

1st - 20th mean temp = 11.1C, max 20.8C (15th), min 0.5C.

Compared to May 2004 it has been very chilly indeed.
