I wouldn't use the word "miserable". It's been sunny at times here,

and
dry pretty much throughout. The only disappointing aspect has been

the
lack of warmth, in spite of the sunshine- this was the reason

behind my
"Who's reached 21C" thread.
"Miserable" to me means days on end of low, grey overcast, steady

but
not torrential rain and temps too warm for snow but too cool for
shirtsleeves. Last October here was an excellent example of a
"miserable" month.

Edmund

We have had below average sunshine round here. Seems like many of

those in
west have done better than we have.
Looks like next week will be different though:-)

Gavin.

In that case, if you've had the same temperatures as we have, it would
be a poor May indeed (apart from the dryness). This week hasn't been as
bright as last, but only Monday was what I'd call "dull".
I still don't hold out much hope of reaching 21C here in the next week
with all those lows nearby. Had 2 airfrosts this month, same as in
January!

Where are you incidentally? I actually remember last October in the
south as being a moderately OK month. It was wet, but it was more like
a spring month: a lot of the rain was in showers, and winds were often
from between west and north meaning clear, sharp skies without the
mugginess often typical of an autumn month.

Seems since we got spring weather last October, we're getting autumn
weather - but without the leaves - now :-(

Well you never know, I guess there's still scope for a cold end to the
month...

Incidentally the sort of weather pattern where a southerly is replaced
by a northerly behind a front moving west to east, and the attendant
huge change in conditions, never seems to happen in northwest Europe
though in some areas like the eastern USA you often hear of such things
happening (and the other way round too).
