Default Interim update, Will?

I would imagine things are pretty much in line with last Thursday's
forecast. Some of the latest charts look quite cold in the more realistic
time frame. The strong NW'ly looks futher west than in recent incursions of
this type. I wondered what your (or others) latest views were for the
Christmas weekend.

Cheers, Dave

Dave see my other thread. Looking mighty interesting, beyond Xmas now too.
But yes things are still going to plan :-)

Will,
Permission to get a little bit excited then? Or, as I live in Essex, should
I retain a dignified pessimism?

Winds look like they will be coming too much from a westerly direction.
Thats not where snow comes from.
Usually, we look either east or north for snow. Why is everyone getting
excited about westerlies?

OK, its originating from a cold origin, and Britain could well be below 528
thickness....
But I'm sorry, I just dont feel any excitement about the latest charts.

Wet and windy will be my forecast. Not exactly mild, but not cold enough
to snow either.

Believe me, I hope Im wrong.

I suppose the dominating Atlantic high pressure could move northish and turn
the westerlies into a more northerly direction.
Then things might get interesting.

Anyway, Are we in for some wild weather on Wednesday morning?
(Yes, thats a "royal" we)

Brendan

Victor, how did a sarf london boy finish up in Essex. Drugs, Gangland turf
wars or just on the run?

Is it just a case of "Look back in Ongar"?

My thoughts as well, the SE will be frosty and sunny unless some
feature like a trough or dare I say it polar low gets it's act
together.

I still have a sneaky feeling that even GFS maybe overplaying the
milder weather in the week after Christmas.

Very inteesting readin Joe *******i's column, I like his style and
what he uses to make his projections, he to is not quite to sure about
the milder change.

Well if next weekend turns into disappointment, and some will be
disappointed.

local south-west weather here has just shown old archive video footage
of a snowy winter from many years ago.

with a light snow symbol on the outlook chart for Christmas Day, didn't
have the audio on, but no text caption mention that will probably be
restricted to the moors.

i then watch Alex doing the 6:57 broadcast and it wasn't displayed for
long, but the chart for xmas eve showed temps across the south of 7 and
8C with what appears to be a band of rain in the south-west approaches.

Look, 7 or 8C ain't going to produce snow

if next weekend fails to deliver the goods AND, it's a big IF right
now, those long range GFS charts turn out to be correct, then i'd
expect a pretty miserable start to the new year for the fans of cold
snowy weather and prospects for this winter.

That would also make a complete farce out of Brian's and Bond's
forecasts for Jan / Feb
Bet they ain't gloating so much now :-)

Nothing so exciting I'm afraid, Lawrence! :-)
Claire, my wife, is from Essex. I decided to move there in 1995 and haven't
regretted it since.
