Can any 02 PAYG Sim work?

I have no idea about older SIMs, but certainly the new ones seem to allow
it. I obtained mine last summer when O2 had one of their free SIM offers,
where you enter your name/address on their web page and they send between 4
and 6 SIM cards. They do this every few weeks for a couple of days, the
last being about a week ago.

I've just spotted in uk.telecom.mobile the offer of free SIM is/was on
today. I have no idea how long it will last though. It is limited to
two SIM cards this time.

Thanks Mike. Ive applied!

Not had a very sucessful week with this. My work phone is Vodaphone, so that
gets used most of the time.
I do have a pay monthly 02 phone (a remnant from the Barclaycard deal with
20% off all calls) but I use is so little
I have gone onto a pay 'up front' deal for £119 per year which includes a
call allowance.
I rang Customer Support to get GPRS enabled. Sorry the tariff is too low -
need to finish that one and get onto a current deal..
So I went for the PAYG. Got the sim - and got the WAP to work - but no
mobile web/ internet.
Emailed customer support this time, cost too much to ring who advised:
Thank you for contacting O2 Customer Service.

GPRS Mobile Web service is not available on Pay & Go. To use this service
you will need to take out a Pay Monthly contract and have a compatible
mobile.

so I had sort of given up until your posting tonight!

Having looked at the charges abroad - Ive seen up to £7-9 per Mb so if its
not free its quite expensive (if you know what I mean!)

Phil

GPRS "Mobile Web" is slightly different and is restricted to contract
phones and all ports are open on it, including access to other email
accounts as well as news. The PAYG cards don't allow full internet
access - just access to O2 Email, but web access on ports 80 (http) and
443 (https) is fully open on it. I'm posting this via Google on port
80, for instance.

Yes, those are the published charges, but I'm curently using my PAYG
SIM on a "foreign" network and my credit is not changing. Yesterday's
total was 16.3 megabytes.
