My mother tells me that it says in her newspaper (and I use the term
loosely, it's The Sun) that the hottest place in the UK yesterday was Glenlivet, at 29.8C, which it also says is the second highest temperature recorded in Scotland since records began, 45 years ago. It all sounds highly suspect to me - any comments? -- Steve Loft, Wanlockhead, Dumfriesshire. 1417ft ASL Weather and webcam: http://www.wanlockhead.org.uk/ |

The reported 29.8°C was, I suspect, the highest hourly or 3-hourly reading. It was, though, no hotter than Hurn airport (Bournemouth) which also had 30.0°C. No reason to disbelieve it: Aviemore which is at a slightly greater altitude had 29.0°C. Glenlivet was always a privately run station, although that may have changed in recent times. It dates back to 1965. Philip Eden |

And would this really be the second highest recorded temperature in Scotland? The current record holder appears to be Greycrook with 32.9C, and wasn't the previous record held by Dumfries, also over 30C? I have good reason to be interested in Glenlivet, as I should be living there this time next month. -- Steve Loft, Wanlockhead, Dumfriesshire. 1417ft ASL Weather and webcam: http://www.wanlockhead.org.uk/ |

I recorded a max of 29.5C yesterday. According to Philip Eden this site is an AWS, part of a network known as the Campbell Data Logger (CDL).possibly in not the best location either, leading to over-reading in strong sunshine. Apparently 30.6C was recorded there yesterday. Col -- Bolton, Lancashire. 160m asl. http://www.reddwarfer.btinternet.co.uk http://www.reddwarfer.btinternet.co....rPictures.html |

I took another meaning into "I have good reason to be interested in Glenlivet"... NOAA APT showed temps of 31.5 in various parts of the NW Highlands. I don't know how accurate the readings are, but hovering the mouse over my location produced a reading that agreed with my thermometer. -- Peter |
