I have a pot of cocktail sticks in the drawer. Will construct the
fortifications later this morning and let you know later how your idea
works.

Just hope the birds don't like cocktails :-)))

And if they impale themselves on the sticks you'll have instant kebabs :-))
I had this thought myself and have already laced the mixed bird food
with thyme, marjoram, pepper and parsley. The salt can wait for later
:-))))) Now 8pm and we _didn't_ have rotisseried chaffinch for dinner
this evening.

BTW the weather station now looks like something from outer space and
the birds are giving it a definite miss. Cocktail sticks look like a
good idea.
