Lack of variation in maximum temperatures
Over the last 14 days maximum temperatures here have ranged from just
16.4C to 19.8C with mean 18.3C and st. dev. 1.14C. Highest all month just 21.8C - very poor indeed. Hopefully September will do better. At least minima have been a bit more interesting. It got down to 5.4C last night - the lowest temperature, by 0.1C, since 1.3C on 7th June. Richard Slessor, Hazlehead, Aberdeen. |
Lack of variation in maximum temperatures
August has been a bit of a disappointment here also.
The absoloute maximum for August is standing at 23.0șC, recorded on the 8th. On the low side, but the equivalent value from 2001 was 1șC lower. The lowest maximum set on the 26th of just +12.8șC is statistically interesting (a new site record), if not exactly enjoyable. The mean for the month is just below the LTA, with only 2001 having a cooler August in the last ten years. However, I think tomorrow afternoon and evening could have extremely interesting weather in store for these parts. :-) Alex Wishaw, Central Lowlands of Scotland. This is only the first year I have been recording but looking at figures for Dyce it looks like being the coolest August since 1999 with August 1998 also being cooler. Its still been warmer than all of the Augusts of the 1960s apart from 1969. However, I think tomorrow afternoon and evening could have extremely interesting weather in store for these parts. :-) Alex Wishaw, Central Lowlands of Scotland. Hopefully, but we probably won't see the best of the thunder up here (as usual). However not having had any overhead thunder this year anything will do! Good luck! Alex. |

Richard Slessor, Hazlehead, Aberdeen. Hi, Richard, High just 23.0C here - very disappointing. This could be rectified today, if the fog clears! Our low was 3.5C with -0.9C on the grass. BBC CEEFAX p401 forecast had 4C for us, so pretty good imho. Mean max is running at -0.4C and mean min +0.1C (1971-2000 means), sunshine 103% and rain 72%. The rain figure could well be altered dramatically before the final reading for August at 09Z tomorrow, though. Amazing how often this happens!
