High Wycombe enjoys THREE night-time storms in a year!
Just like waiting for a bus isn't it! We go almost six years without a single
night-time storm and then we get three in just under 4 months! Started about 22:30pm last night. No C-Gs at all with heavy rain for about half an hour with C-C lightning flashes approx every 30-45 secs. As with last Wednesday evening's storm it was upper mid to high-level stuff. There were a few VERY spectacular flashes where tree-root-like multiple sparks ran along the base of the clouds - one of which reminded me of that AMAZING lightning flash that was used in one of the Storm Chasers series on TV. Without wishing to sound big-headed, I didn't think last night's activity would be as active as last Wednesday's as according to the GFS forecast, the CAPE & lifted index were forecast to be lower (500-600 j/Kg & lifted index 0 to -2) than last Wednesday night (900-1100 j/Kg & lifted index -4). This morning it is VERY humid and positively unpleasant, but the sky is VERY slowly lightening up. May see some sun later which will really up the discomfort! Still, three night-time storms in a year keeps me happy! Nigel Aagh! Every time I learn something new... it pushes something old out of my brain! |
