Bang goes the petrol price again then if it hits Galveston - looks like I'm

Refreshing to watch 'proper' weather coverage over here.....

I noticed at one point yesterday the price of oil had already risen
again by $3 to some $66/bbl.

Yep - plenty of rigs being evacuated again as we speak. The coverage on the
TV is fascinating over here - they actually *explain* the mechanics of the
hurricane and why it develops and moves the way it does.

OK hurricane to be..

I am leaving the UK Thursday for Houston,TX and from there I will attempt
to get within the eyewall of Rita where I will have deployed a weather
station ( a humble VP1) in order to measure pressure and wind speed.

Stay safe!!

food rations and a flashlight with a small FM/AM radio. Oh yes, an oar,
bring an oar..!

Presumably the evacuation orders don't stop international flights coming in
? Otherwise it could be a short trip.

For anyone interested here is a satellite image taken about an hour
ago..

http://tinyurl.com/nh2z

I saw yesterday a more defined eye on this storm from the same
satellite, so the storm has weakened, and it's become less organized
over the past 18-20 hours. But still heading for Texas.. if it takes a
sudden turn to the north, which these storms frequently do, it heading
right for New Orleans again right now.

The smart money says it's heading for the Houston/Galveston area. Good
luck to all in the effected areas.

May not even need to strike too close to NO to cause problems with surge and
rainfall - and local news was saying there are other towns with worse levee
protection than NO in the strike areas.....
