Thanks. These kinds of shots are the one area where I miss my slide
film, digital just doesn't quite seem to handle the huge variation in
luminosity with the finesse of Fujichrome. Might just be my older
DSLR...

One of my favorite partial ellipse images, seen form Burns, OR July
30, 2000. Fujichrome 100, iffen I recolmember right.

Bob, try shooting the image in Black and White. Using only the
Luminance pixels will extend the dynamic range you'll get in the final
image.
This image shot in Color was just a red disk. It's a H-Alpha image shot
through a Coronado PST.
