Default weather station replacement?

Hello
I used to have a cheapy weather station with simple in and out temperature
display, but the remote sensor died a while ago.
Got me thinking, I'd quite like one with some sort of PC interface so that I
can update my website with temperature etc.
Are there any cheapish ones that offer this, or is it only available on the
stuff costing 300 quid?

Maplins do a simple temp module for a tenner with an RS232 output so I could
use that, but I wanted something slightly more pro- perhaps something that I
can expand with additional sensors later on?
James.

Default weather station replacement?

Hi James,

i've currently got a WS2300, which is available from Skyview at around £160.
Its quite accurate, although i would recommend you make a radiation shield
for it, as in the sun, temperatures can be affected. The station measures
wind, temp, dewpoint, pressure, rainfall and some other things. It has a
serial port PC connection and can be connected wired or wirelessly. It also
comes with software to add current conditions to a website. I have current
conditions from my weather station on my site at
www.dudleyweather.angelcities.com

Hope this helps.

Mike

In general if you want a combination of reasonable accuracy and
reliability, you need to opt for a higher price station as found in
the Davis range.

But the One-Wire concept always seems quite interesting and fairly
cheap and lets you expand the system in easy stages. We don't sell
these ourselves, but you'll find some details at:

www.audon.co.uk/1-wire_weather.html

The sensors interface directly with the PC and so the PC display (or a
PC-managed web page) is the only way of viewing the data, ie there's
no separate weather station console. It's also cabled only AFAIK, ie
no wireless option, but it is inexpensive at least unless you add lots
of optional sensors.

I like the sound of this - especially the "kit" aspect of it and possibly
doing my own software etc.
The one that Michael mentioned is still over my initial budget a bit
unfortunately

Thanks
James.

If you like the idea of building your own from a kit then you might like
to look at Peter Anderson's website (www.phanderson.com).

Ooh, much to read through. Thanks! I've played with a Basic Stamp before
(made a g-force-ometer and shift-light combo for a kit car) but not tried
PIC's yet...
