Default [OT]PC Locking Up

Can anyone explain why my PC locks up when I try to access web links inserted into messages on the newsgroup.
No problem with normal browsing. Have tried several times today with the same result.

You might check that at least one browser (if you have more than one) is
set as the default browser.

Clear all your temporary internet files. Often clears problems.

The software said to install Win98, NT4 or better; so I installed OS X.

What exactly do you mean by "locking up"?

Does the mouse-pointer still move?
Are you able to switch between applications?
Do you get any response at all when you click on various features in
applications?

I get many complaints from people who say something like
"Whenever I click on a link, all I get is a blank browser-window with not
even the URL in the address bar"

If all you're getting is blank pop-up browsers with no content then the fix
is to click on START...RUN....
then enter " regsvr32 urlmon.dll " and click OK

This may not fix your problem but I thought it is useful to mention it
anyway.

Hi Brendan,

It doesn't seem to happen on every link. When it does I can move the mouse but not shut down that particular post or even the
newsgroup. I can access any browser windows that are open but opening other links in the browser become painfully slow. In the
end I have to reboot to cure the problem. This only happens on the newsgroup links.

Just tried what you said and tried another post with a link. A browser window tried to open and then Outlook Express shut down.
