You are better off looking at the here & now, ie. the window.
As you so rightly said, total fantasy!

They're certainly very variable at the moment...

When I last looked the 17th (three days before this) had a
Bartlett-high style anticyclonic west-north-westerly.... which I
suppose at least would be significantly sunnier than now.

What it does prove is that it's mathematically possible to get a proper cold
snap rather than the reality which is them media pretending this is a cold
winter!

Brian,

Looking at the 12z GFS ensemble members the operational run, on which the
chart is based, appears to be a very cold outlier. So yes, quite a good
chance of it being 'total fantasy' but what a fantasy if it were to occur!!
